Does Resu-Matic by Final Draft Resumes Beat the Bots?

If you’ve spent any time browsing Reddit on the r/resumes subreddit, Resu-Matic is often touted as a great and cheap resource for job-seekers.

So, is it a good value? More importantly, does it Beat the Bots? Keep reading to find out…

Things we love:

  1. There are some great FREE common-sense tips in the Best Practices section, such as not including your home address (although they don’t mention why this is a bad idea)

  2. The AI feature is useful if you need some help generating a summary statement (unless you are writing a federal resume, though, skip the summary!)

Things we dislike:

  1. The helpful videos such as in the Best Practices section are NOT ACCESSIBLE. There is no closed-captioned option or transcript available. Yikes!

  2. The idea of paying for any AI-generated wording is pretty silly! You can ask Chat GPT to “generate an active voice summary describing a jobseeker with X years of experience in Y industry seeking a role as Z” for example, for free. Play around with Chat GPT if you have trouble with your wording!

  3. Finally, NONE of the templates Beat the Bots! All have fatal errors, especially horizontal lines and multiple columns. Definitely save your money!

So, what’s our verdict?

It’s probably not worth between $3 (Basic Plan) and $19 (Pro Plan) a month for the casual jobseeker, and definitely not worth a whopping $129 for lifetime access. Take the free tips, leave the templates.

Save your money and invest in a template that passes basic ATS formatting rules.
